Whistler was orginally formed under the name Aztec Two Step at the summer of 1994 in Ljungby, Sweden, by Sussi Johansson (bas & vocals), Patrik Arvidsson (guitar & vocals) and Per Arne Olsson (drums & vocals). 1995 became Jimmie Karlsson, on guitar and vocals, a member of the group and as Cathy«s Clowns we recorded a democassette "Guitaroids From Outer Space" and a song "My Car" to a CD (released september 1996 by Ljungby Musik) with different local bands from Ljungby. KvŠllsposten, a swedish newspaper, wrote about the stuff on "Guitaroids" (translated from swedish): "Simple and good. Maybe should the group leave all the singing to Sussi". We did that and changed name to Whistler.
At the summer of 1997 we ownproduced our first CD, an EP, with a new drummer, Ludwig Johnsson. "Pop Fiction" (released 11/5-98 by the norwegian microlabel Bed Not Found Records). Short after the release Jimmie had to leave the group and Hans Axelsson (guitar & synth) replaced Jimmie.
16-17 May 1998 we recorded some tracks in a "real" (i don «t believe in ghosts but can I be really sure?) ghosthouse; Fylleskog and even slept over in the house for inspiration. The ghost is a Lady Ann Beata Bock who without a trace disappeared in the autumn 1721. The legend, a bloody story, says that the devil himself took her and that a contract between her and the devil still exist in the house. We did not find the contract. But thanks to the Fylleskog tape we became friends with Hans Arnold, a wellknown horrorcartoonist not only for the cover he did to ABBA«s greatest hits-album, and he supported us with pictures to the upcoming CD.
Maybe the devil also took Hans as he had to leave the group short after the Fylleskog Session.
Stefan Johansson, synth, replaced Hans. With him and a second voice: Martina Knutsson we continued to record tunes for our first whole-lenght album: "Dazzling Days". We became "Artists Of The Week" with the album in the Swedish Radio P4 Kronoberg and got some nice attention in the swedish press as big newspapers like Expressen, KvŠllsposten wrote about us.
Whistler are: Sussi Johansson, bas & vocals Martina Knutsson, second voice & tambourines Patrik Arvidsson, guitar Ludwig Johnsson, drums Stefan Johansson, synthesizer
Now we are both working with our new stuff: Two songs on Wright Music Groups (USA) upcoming compilation CD: "Departure Gate 5", one or maybe two or more songs for a compilationCD Rockposer Production (Sweden) will release and covers: Three Syd Barret-covers for some sort of Syd Barret-compilation for Record Number Nine Records (Sweden) and two covers for iRREGULAR Records (USA).
