Something Phonic is an energetic 3-piece band from Oshkosh, WI. Their style is best described as Funk Rock, though it tends to push the boundries into other musical influences and pull down the walls between them as well. The last few years have been filled with nothing but good reviews of their various bootleg tapes, and of their amazing live performances. And while the core fan base in Oshkosh threatens to overrun the city, the Phonic Crew remains very busy spreading their musical seed to every corner of the Midwest as well. Now with the new millennium at hand, Something Phonic has just independently released their first six song EP. It is a self-titled CD that journeys through Rock, Funk, Jazz, Blues, and still comes out with that definitive Something Phonic groove underlying every track. This is only a small taste, however, of what this band has to offer. Including the EP, they have about two hours of original material, and a few covers, from Chili Peppers to G. Love tossed in for flavor. But words can only say so much about this band. The music must ultimately speak for itself, and then you may truly appreciate the dedication and ambition that goes along with that sweet, sweet Something Phonic sound. So sit back, strap on your safety harnesses, and prepare your ears for takeoff!
