Clever lyrics, catchy tunes, and three guys—these are the three main ingredients that formulate Orange County’s newest emerging pop-punk trio Drowning Fish. Since the band’s initial formation back in 1994 of brothers Mario (vocals/guitar) and Marc Morcos (drums), no time was wasted as the two began experimenting with melodies and lyrics. Before long, the two found themselves with a variety of original songs, yet unable to perform anywhere due to the absence of a bass player. So the search began. Thousands of flyers, ads, and inquiries were posted, placed and made. Though the search for the right bass player has been a grueling and seemingly endless task for the two, with bad decisions being made a few times already (one decided to focus on his own band, one moved back to South Dakota, and one was unfortunately handed the boot!), a decision was finally made to temporarily call off the search, and head into the studio. With the pressure off of searching for a permanent bass player for the time being, the two are able to focus on devoting all their time to the making of their first release—a 15 song CD aimed for release in mid to late December. The 15 songs have been chosen, and the two are now busy dissecting each song to perfection… and practicing the bass lines they will be recording in the studio. Drowning Fish is not just another punk band without a clue. With plans such as “High School Invasion Tour 2001,” daily practice sessions, 50+ songs (with new songs always in the making), and a true passion for live shows, this hard-working and motivated pop-punk trio seems to know exactly what they want and how they will get it. With a future that proves wide, long, and promising, expect this to only be the beginning of what you now know as Drowning Fish.
